Greens claim batteries will back up wind power. But the one promised by Elon Musk would keep South Australia going for just 3.5 minutes.

Peter …
Weatherill has also announced a new Government owned gas powered backup plant to back up the back up batteries. But he somehow wants to avoid the issue of cost. If existing gas powered plants are unviable economically because they can only come online now and then when wind power fails, what makes him think that a new one will be viable especially with ineffective and expensive batteries in the mix too.

And if it is not economically viable – who is going to pay? Clearly it will be taxpayers in the guise of taxpayers or taxpayers in the guise of electricity users. In other words South Austrlaians. None of this solves the basic problem because none of it addresses the basic problem –  green energy is a prescription for expensive and intermittent energy and Weatherill with his eye firmly fixed on next years election refuses to acknowledge that Labor’s policies which have so far cost SA households millions and given them poorer services are about to cost SA millions more – all without fixing the problem. It is not an energy strategy – it is a political strategy.
