United Airlines’ apology was in stark contrast to its initial response, in which it seemed to at least partially blame the passenger.

There has to be a better way. If you have reserved and paid for a seat you have the right to scream loudly if the airline asks you to stay where you are. Surely tickets are prepaid, so why would they lose money of somebody books and doesn’t show up. Are they stupid enough to offer to send the bill later, or greedy enough to double dip by getting a second person to pay for a seat somebody else has already paid for but just don’t show up at boarding time?
